How we handle bath re-enamelling in Northern Quarter

Resurfacing renews the entire surface of the bath without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. We regularly repair acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we will come back.

Repairing versus replacing in Northern Quarter

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

When a repair is not the answer

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Materials we work on in Northern Quarter

What affects the price in Northern Quarter

Resurfacing from £350. There is no area surcharge for Northern Quarter. What changes the price is:

  • How much damage there is
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material and finish

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing typically costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Quotes from your pictures

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A picture taken from further back
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Details of any past repairs

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Questions from Northern Quarter

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before and we’ll plan for it.

Are there extra charges for Northern Quarter?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.

What happens on the day

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, then carry out the work, which typically takes the best part of a day. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the next day.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Ask for a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Advice

How to look after the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse off any bath products.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

When to call us in Northern Quarter

Previous coatings can fail too, lifting by the plughole or blistering. We strip what’s failing and start again.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Stains that won’t shift

Questions to ask before you book

  • How your room will be protected
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether they match the colour on site
