Bath re-enamelling in Pityme, done in place

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we don’t cut corners on it. Typical jobs include a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and an old resurfacing that’s failing, across basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and Victorian roll-tops.

All our work comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Cornwall.

Pityme questions

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

How long is the bath unusable?

Normally one day, with the bath ready the next day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Resurfacing from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from pictures. You’ll get a fixed figure before booking.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

How do I book?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Plan for most of the day from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Repairing versus replacing in Pityme

There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing usually wins. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

What we cannot put right

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Materials we work on in Pityme

  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What the surface is made of

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Send pictures for a quote

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:

  • Any details about the material
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. There is no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.
