How we handle bath re-enamelling in Pool
We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We work on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are an outdated colour you’d like to change and lots of chips and rust spots.
You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we will sort it.

What we do, step by step
Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.
- First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
- Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- Primer and finish coats are applied.
- The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Ensure the room can be ventilated
Ask for a price
A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Roll-top and period baths
Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
Pressed steel
Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

How to care for the repair
Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:
- Never use suction bath mats
- Have chips seen to early
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
- A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.
Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.
Honest limits
A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:
- Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
- A bath that is rusted through
- Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Repair or replace in Pool?
Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How we price bath re-enamelling
Prices start from £350. We price every job individually. The main factors are:
- Unusual colours or finishes
- What the surface is made of
- How much damage there is
- How many items we do on one visit
Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Pool. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.
Quotes from your photos
It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Any details about the material
- A picture taken from further back
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
Most clients in Pool get their price from pictures. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Pool

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:
- Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
- Wear marks under the taps
- A peeling or bubbling previous coating
- A bath in a colour that no longer suits

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Pool
Is there a guarantee?
Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.
Do you cover the entire of Cornwall?
Across the UK, so Pool is covered. Our prices are the same everywhere.
Are you a vetted contractor?
Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.
Is a repair better than a new one?
In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?
Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.
Is it safe with children and pets around?
Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. Everywhere else in the home is fine.
Do I have to be there?
We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
