Bath re-enamelling for Potarch homes

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Bath re-enamelling in Potarch without replacing anything

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. Our technicians work on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and common reasons people contact us are wear marks under the taps and a peeling or bubbling previous coating.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Should you replace it?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How it works

Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and tidy away. Plan for most of the day. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

For landlords and businesses

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

When a repair is not the answer

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • The material
  • Access to the area
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Potarch. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Natural light rather than flash

To get a price, send a couple of pictures using our quote form or call us. We will say immediately if a repair is the right fix.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and do not leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

DIY kit or professional repair?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
