Bath re-enamelling at your home in Ravenglass

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Typical jobs include a bath in a colour that no longer suits and worn patches where water runs and sits, in pressed steel baths, acrylic baths and basins & shower trays.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once we have gone.

Ravenglass questions

What happens next?

You’ll get a fixed quote back, usually with dates to choose from. There is no obligation to book.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Do you come to Ravenglass?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and travel to Ravenglass and the rest of Cumbria. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What information do you need?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath typically involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the next day. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

How the visit works

Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Allow a full day. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Ensure the area is dry

Related advice

What affects the price in Ravenglass

Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed price from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How hard the colour is to match

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from photos

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The material, if you know it
  • Where you are, by postcode

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can give you a fixed quote without visiting.

How to care for the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Ravenglass?

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Contact us if you’ve noticed:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
