About our bath re-enamelling in Rigside

Resurfacing renews the entire surface of the bath without taking anything out. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. We regularly repair basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are chips and rust in more than one place and an outdated colour you’d like to change.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Rigside

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Will the price change on the day?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

How long does re-enamelling last?

Look after it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. Inside and out.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Rigside

Enamel wears gradually. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use wear the gloss away, starting where water runs and sits.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

How to look after the repair

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, so limescale can’t build up.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Rigside. What changes the price is:

  • The material
  • How many areas need work
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Compared with replacing, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from pictures

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • What it’s made of, if you know

If you’re in Rigside and want a price, photos are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

How the visit works

We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes most of the day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Open a window if you can
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
