Bath re-enamelling in Shingay, done in place

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day, with the bath ready to use the following day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. Typical jobs include a coloured bath you want in white and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we will sort it.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We look at:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Shingay. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Quotes from your photos

You can generally get a fixed price without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

What we are called out for in Shingay

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, lifting by the plughole or blistering. We strip what’s failing and start again.

People typically call us when they notice one of these:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A coloured bath you want in white

What we cannot put right

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse off any bath products.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand. Once we are there, the work takes the best part of a day in most cases. We leave the room clean and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Related advice

Shingay: your questions answered

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. We resurface it in place, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Will there be fumes?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Do you come to Shingay?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Shingay. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Do you cover the entire of Cambridgeshire?

We work UK-wide, so Shingay is covered. Prices don’t change with location.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Work for landlords and builders

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Shingay as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it generally costs far less than a refit.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.
