Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Compared with replacing, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

What affects the price in Wendy

Prices start from £350. There’s no charge for travel to Wendy. The price comes down to:

  • Access to the area
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Wendy. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How to get a fixed price

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Details of any past repairs

Upload photos of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your SG8 postcode, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Wendy

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Will the bath be moved?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

How long does re-enamelling last?

Look after it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before and we’ll plan for it.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Wendy?

Prices start from £350. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You will get a fixed figure before you book.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Dry the bath after use if possible, particularly with hard water, and rinse off any bath products.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

What happens on the day

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to most of the day, tidy-up included.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Honest limits

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • A bath split right through the body

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.
