How we handle bath re-enamelling in Shotts

Resurfacing renews the entire surface of the bath without a refit. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. Our repair technicians work on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths, and people most often call us about a coating lifting around the plughole and worn patches where water runs and sits.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

How the visit works

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the work takes a full day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Open a window if you can
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Shotts questions

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, so the repair is not disturbed while it cures.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, often. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Do you come to Shotts?

Yes, we do. Technicians travel to Shotts from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We will confirm timings when we quote.

How to care for the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Respect the curing time we give you

The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

For landlords and businesses

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

When we’d advise against a repair

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Repairing versus replacing in Shotts

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why book with us

  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • One price list for the entire UK

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Access to the area
  • The material
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What kind of damage it is

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Quotes from your pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any details about the material
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Something in shot to show the size

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.
