Bath re-enamelling in St Combs

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Bath re-enamelling in St Combs without replacing anything

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, and can be used again the following day. We work on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are stains that won’t shift and a coloured bath you want in white.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

How to care for the repair

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Repairing versus replacing in St Combs

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

FAQs for St Combs

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Do you charge for travel?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Usually one day, with the bath ready the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Do you come to St Combs?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to St Combs. Send pictures and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A bath split right through the body
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we work on in St Combs

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Access to the area
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What kind of damage it is

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed price

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

How the visit works

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to most of the day.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Get a quote

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.
