Bath re-enamelling in St Mark’s

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

About our bath re-enamelling in St Mark’s

Resurfacing renews the entire surface of the bath without a refit. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. Our technicians work on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths, and people most often call us about a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and wear marks under the taps.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll come back.

When a repair is not the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Repairing versus replacing in St Mark’s

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Resurfacing takes one technician and usually a day, with the bath back in use the next day. Prices start from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Why book with us

The process

You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It normally takes most of the day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the following day.

How to prepare

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Ask for a price

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos using our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Related advice

What affects the price in St Mark’s

Resurfacing from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • What the surface is made of
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Send pictures for a quote

You can normally get a fixed price without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Send us pictures of the damage and one of the whole item, and tell us you’re in St Mark’s, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

What we’re called out for in St Mark’s

Enamel does not fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use dull the surface, starting where water runs and sits.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • How the room is protected while they work
