Bath re-enamelling for Stamperland homes

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

About our bath re-enamelling in Stamperland

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. Typical jobs include a peeling or bubbling previous coating and a roll-top that’s seen better days, in acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we will sort it.

The process

We agree an arrival time beforehand. On site, it takes the best part of a day for most jobs. The room is left tidy and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the day after.

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

When to call us in Stamperland

By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

Contact us if you’ve noticed:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

What we cannot put right

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Should you replace it?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the whole room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Stamperland. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

What affects the price in Stamperland

Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. What matters most is:

  • How many areas need work
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What the surface is made of
  • How many items we do on one visit

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

How to get a fixed quote

Before you send photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures through our quote form or ring us. We will say straight away whether it can be repaired.

Common questions in Stamperland

What areas do you cover?

We work UK-wide. Our prices are the same everywhere.

When can you do it?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and we’ll quote them together.

Do you cover Stamperland?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and come to Stamperland and the rest of Glasgow. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Is there a smell?

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Avoid suction-cup mats

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.
