Bath re-enamelling for Staveley homes

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

Bath re-enamelling in Staveley, done in place

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. If you’re dealing with a coating lifting around the plughole and worn patches where water runs and sits, we can normally put it right, whatever the material.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

What we cannot put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Staveley?

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

The things clients usually mention when they call are:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean

Questions from Staveley

How quickly can you book me in?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Is it messy?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Normally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Resurfacing from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Do you come to Staveley?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to Staveley and the rest of North Yorkshire. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What information do you need?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Can you quote from pictures?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

What happens on the day

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes most of the day. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Ask for a price

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos using our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Advice

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the entire room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing normally wins. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why us?

  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Work done at your home or business
