About our bath re-enamelling in Stoke Lane

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. We’re often asked to fix an old resurfacing that’s failing and an outdated colour you’d like to change, across Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after the visit.

What a repair cannot fix

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • A bath that is rusted through
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we work on in Stoke Lane

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths

Why repair rather than replace?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Stoke Lane

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The size and number of damaged areas

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Send photos for a quote

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A photo taken from further back

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures using our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Common problems we fix in Stoke Lane

Previous coatings can fail too, lifting by the plughole or blistering. We strip what’s failing and start again.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

What your quote should include

  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Who will actually do the work
  • How long it needs to cure
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers

How to compare quotes

The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for most of the day. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Repairs by material

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.
