How we handle bath re-enamelling in Stone

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. Our technicians work on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and people most often call us about an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and thin, worn enamel in places.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we will come back.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

How the visit works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. It normally takes a full day, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Make sure the area is dry

Ask for a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Stone

Are you a vetted contractor?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Do you work in Stone?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Stone. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Repair or replace in Stone?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before booking, with nothing added on the day.

What you get with us

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • One price list for the whole UK

How to care for the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Have chips seen to early

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, so limescale can’t build up.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Stone?

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

Before booking anyone

  • What prep work is covered
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The material and finish
  • How much damage there is
  • How hard the colour is to match

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Send pictures for a quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any details about the material
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Email us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Stone, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
