Bath re-enamelling in Storth

About our bath re-enamelling in Storth

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. Common call-outs are for a bath in a colour that no longer suits and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, in basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and cast iron baths.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

How the visit works

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to most of the day, including clearing up.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Ask for a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Storth questions

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside if you’d like.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Nearly always. If pictures don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

How long does re-enamelling last?

Care for it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Resurfacing from £350. Every job gets a fixed price from your photos. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Storth

Hard water speeds up the wear, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A coloured bath you want in white

Before you book anyone

  • When it can be used again
  • Who will actually do the work
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

Choosing a repair company

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that is rusted through
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. There’s no area surcharge for Storth. What changes the price is:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Any details about the material

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can give you a fixed quote without visiting.
