Bath re-enamelling in The Barony

Bath re-enamelling in The Barony, done in place

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. Whether it’s worn patches where water runs and sits and chips and rust in more than one place, we can typically put it right, on acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays alike.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in The Barony as everywhere else we work.

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Repair dripping taps early

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, so limescale can’t build up.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

The Barony questions

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Normally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send pictures.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and you will get one combined price.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in The Barony?

Resurfacing from £350. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Usually a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Will the new finish last?

Look after it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

What a repair cannot fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A bath split right through the body

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths

What we do, step by step

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Plan for a full day. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Let us know about parking or access

Ask for a price

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them over with your postcode, and you will get a fixed quote back. There is no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

Related advice

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Should you replace it?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.
