Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Dounby

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

How long does re-enamelling last?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Do you hold any accreditations?

What happens after I send pictures?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.

Does re-enamelling smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the finish cures.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Dounby

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Typical jobs include stains that won’t shift and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it, across pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays.

You’re covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many areas need work
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether we combine several jobs

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Send photos for a quote

Phone pictures are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One picture of the entire bath

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It typically takes a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s generally ready the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

10 questions to ask before you book

Why repair rather than replace?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Why us?

  • Free fixed quotes from pictures
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing

See our pricing or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Repairs by material

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Have chips seen to early

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

When we’d advise against a repair

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.
