Bath re-enamelling in The Common

Bath re-enamelling at your home in The Common

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Typical jobs include several chips and rust patches and an outdated colour you’d like to change, across basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and Victorian roll-tops.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Aftercare tips

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

How the visit works

Once we are through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes the best part of a day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Clear the area around the damage

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • What the surface is made of
  • What kind of damage it is

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book.

Getting a price from photos

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Where you are, by postcode

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. Quotes are free and no obligation.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Holes rusted through the metal

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Questions from The Common

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Prices start from £350. Every job gets a fixed price based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up and a picture of the whole item with your CB10 postcode.

Do you work in The Common?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to The Common for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

How quickly can you book me in?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Are there extra charges for The Common?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

What happens next?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.
