Bath re-enamelling in Thurstonfield, done in place

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. We’re often asked to fix a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and staining under the taps and around the waste, across acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Thurstonfield: your questions answered

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the finish cures.

What happens after I send photos?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote and the next dates we have.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, often. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

How it works

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take most of the day, including clearing up.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know about parking or access

Advice

For landlords and businesses

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we work on in Thurstonfield

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths

Repairing versus replacing in Thurstonfield

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why us?

  • Generally one visit, start to finish
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • Colour-matched on site

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Thurstonfield. What changes the price is:

  • The type of damage
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • What the surface is made of
  • How hard the colour is to match

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Thurstonfield. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Any details about the material

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

What we are called out for in Thurstonfield

Enamel wears gradually. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use wear the gloss away, starting where water runs and sits.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean

What your quote should include

  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What preparation is included
