Bath re-enamelling near Tir-Nest

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

About our bath re-enamelling in Tir-Nest

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths, with the bath ready to use the following day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. If you are dealing with a coloured bath you want in white and worn patches where water runs and sits, we can normally put it right, whatever the material.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

Advice

Honest limits

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we work on in Tir-Nest

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

When to call us in Tir-Nest

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How long it needs to cure

How to compare quotes

Should you replace it?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Prices start from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before booking.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Tir-Nest

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • No need to remove anything
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year

Can I fix it myself?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We take into account:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material and finish

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Tir-Nest. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any details about the material
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

To get a price, send two or three photos through our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.
