How we handle bath re-enamelling in Townhill

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day, with the bath ready to use the following day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. Whether it’s thin, worn enamel in places and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, we can normally put it right, on acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops alike.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll come back.

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

When to call us in Townhill

Enamel doesn’t fail overnight. Years of cleaning, hard water and hot baths wear the gloss away, starting where water runs and sits.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • What prep work is covered
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • What aftercare is recommended

10 questions to ask before booking

When we would advise against a repair

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • A bath that is rusted through

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best:

  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually. The main factors are:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The colour and finish to match

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

How to get a fixed price

You can take the pictures on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any details about the material
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Details of any past repairs

If you are in Townhill and want a price, the easiest route is pictures: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Common questions in Townhill

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit normally costs less than separate visits. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can you quote from pictures?

In nearly every case. If photos do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Is there a smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the finish cures.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room masked and ventilated.

Do you work in Townhill?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Townhill. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

What happens on the day

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow a full day from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Ask for a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Townhill. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
