Bath re-enamelling for Wheddon Cross homes

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Wheddon Cross

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. If you are dealing with an old resurfacing that’s failing and a bath in a colour that no longer suits, we can normally put it right.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Wheddon Cross: your questions answered

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Can you quote from photos?

Typically, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit normally costs less than separate visits. Include photos of each item.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading, and each one adds to the preparation. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

What we can’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Should you replace it?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We do not charge extra for travel to Wheddon Cross. The price comes down to:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Access to the area
  • The type of damage
  • What the surface is made of

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from pictures

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To make it quick:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A picture taken from further back
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

If you’re in Wheddon Cross and want a price, pictures are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

How it works

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we are there. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes most of the day. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
