Bath re-enamelling at your home in Widemarsh

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. We are often asked to fix staining under the taps and around the waste and an outdated colour you’d like to change, in acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

What a repair can’t fix

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops

How the visit works

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job typically takes most of the day. We clean up when we are done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

How to get a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Questions from Widemarsh

When can you do it?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Usually, yes. The old repair comes out first.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can you quote from pictures?

Usually, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working, which fades afterwards.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

What happens after I send pictures?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Choosing a repair company

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
