Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.

Bath re-enamelling in Yscir, done in place

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. Whether it’s an outdated colour you’d like to change and a roll-top that’s seen better days, we can help, on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays alike.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Can I fix it myself?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How the visit works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. It normally takes most of the day, and we will tell you if anything changes.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Related advice

When a repair is not the answer

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Why repair rather than replace?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the whole surface without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material
  • How much damage there is
  • The type of damage

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The material, if you know it
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.
