Bath repair in Blacknest without replacing anything

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. We regularly repair roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and impact holes in acrylic.

Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee.

What we do, step by step

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you are not left guessing. On site, it takes a few hours, depending on the damage in most cases. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can usually use the bath the following day.

How to get a price

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

When we would advise against a repair

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why us?

  • No extra charge for your area
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Small chips are quick to repair. Leave them and they collect dirt, stain and, on metal baths, rust, so it’s worth getting them done early.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There’s no area surcharge for Blacknest. What changes the price is:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The material and finish
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Blacknest. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • The material, if you know it
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Upload a photo of the damage and one of the entire item, with your SL5 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Questions from Blacknest

What happens after I send photos?

We come back with a fixed quote, generally with dates to choose from. You’re under no obligation.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Are there extra charges for Blacknest?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Will I be able to see the repair?

The goal is a repair that blends in. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference.

When can you do it?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

Often, if there’s access underneath. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

DIY kit or professional repair?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
