FAQs for Chantry

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Typically, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.

When can you do it?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

About our bath repair in Chantry

Most of our bath repairs take a few hours, and the bath is back in use the next day. There’s no need to book a plumber or tiler, because the bath does not move. If you’re dealing with cracks in an acrylic bath and a hole punched through by something heavy, we can usually put it right, on pressed steel enamel, roll-top & freestanding and cast iron enamel alike.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Chantry as everywhere else we work.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Chantry

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will arrange it.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim normally crack when it comes out, a new panel is frequently needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. A repair skips all of it. Our bath repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Why us?

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • One price list for the entire UK
  • Work done at your home or business
  • One visit for most repairs

See our prices page or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

How it works

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and tidy away. Allow two to three hours for most chips. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the next day.

How to prepare

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Advice

How to care for the repair

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, so water can’t get in. Take it off before we arrive.

What a repair can’t fix

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we work on in Chantry

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, in much the same way.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • The type of damage
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What the surface is made of
  • How much damage there is

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The material, if you know it
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

To get a price, send two or three pictures using our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

When to call us in Chantry

A cracked acrylic bath usually wasn’t supported properly. Loose legs, no proper cradle or a floor that gives let the base flex until the acrylic gives way.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Chips under the taps

Questions to ask before you book

  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • What prep work is covered
