Most baths are re-enamelled in a day. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. Common call-outs are for a coloured bath you want in white and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring, on basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and Victorian roll-tops.

All our work comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Somerset.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

For landlords and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Chantry, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we’ll price them together.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

What we do, step by step

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. Allow most of the day, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Open a window if you can
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Advice

Chantry: your questions answered

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room protected and ventilated.

What happens next?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote and the next dates we have.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

How long does re-enamelling last?

Care for it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Can you price it without visiting?

Typically, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Common problems we fix in Chantry

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

10 questions to ask before booking

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

When we would advise against a repair

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A metal bath with a through crack

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Should you replace it?

There are times replacing is better: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the whole room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.
