Common problems we fix in Clayhanger
Most bath damage comes from something dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, any chip down to the metal lets water in, and rust follows.
Contact us if you’ve noticed any of these:
- Chips along the edge of the bath
- An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
- Rust by the waste and overflow
- Chips caused by builders

How we handle bath repair in Clayhanger
We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which is far cheaper than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. You can usually use the bath the day after. Whether it’s cracks in an acrylic bath and holes from dropped items, we can help, whatever the material.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Clayhanger as everywhere else we work.

How the visit works
Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If anything looks different from your pictures, we will talk to you before going ahead.
- We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
- The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
- The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
- We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
- We leave it to cure; you can generally use the bath the day after.

Repair or replace: which is better?
Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim usually crack when it comes out, a new panel is often needed, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Common questions in Clayhanger
What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?
If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.
Can you do more than one item on the same visit?
Of course, and it typically saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.
Are you a vetted contractor?
We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.
I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?
Yes, we do this often. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.
What information do you need?
A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.
Is it safe with children and pets around?
Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.
Will the repair show?
On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.
Are there extra charges for Clayhanger?
Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

How we price bath repair
Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:
- Whether we combine several jobs
- What kind of damage it is
- How much damage there is
- How hard the colour is to match
A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.
Quotes from your pictures
Phone pictures are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Make sure they show:
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- A photo taken from further back
- Natural light rather than flash
A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, include your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.
When we would advise against a repair
Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:
- Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
- Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
- A steel bath rusted through
Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
Surfaces we repair
- Whirlpool & spa baths
- Cast iron enamel
- Acrylic
- Pressed steel enamel
- Roll-top & freestanding
What your bath is made of matters
Acrylic
An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.
Composite and resin
Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

DIY kit or professional repair?
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.
A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.
How to look after the repair
Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:
- Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
- Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
- Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
- Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.
A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.
