Bath repair near Duncrievie

Bath repair at your home in Duncrievie

A repair fixes just the damaged area and blends it into the rest of the bath, which costs far less than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. Most baths can be used again the next day. We’re often asked to fix a kit repair that didn’t last and chips under the taps, in pressed steel enamel, acrylic and cast iron enamel.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Duncrievie questions

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed quote, typically with dates to choose from. There is no obligation to book.

What happens if you find more damage?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can tenants book a repair?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes, we do this frequently. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Repair or replace in Duncrievie?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and replacing like for like isn’t cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Our bath repair starts from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We take into account:

  • How much damage there is
  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Duncrievie. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

You can take the pictures on your phone, there’s no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Details of any past repairs

The process

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners

There’s nothing special to do after a repair. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and rinse after use.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

Do you need bath repair in Duncrievie?

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else, with dropped shower heads close behind. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Holes from dropped items
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • Rust spots around the plughole

What your quote should include

  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • What preparation is included
  • How to care for the finish

Choosing a repair company

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.
