About our bath repair in Gilcrux

Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all fixed without removing the bath, usually in a single visit. We work on acrylic, cast iron enamel and whirlpool & spa baths, and people most often call us about damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after the visit.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Should you replace it?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: tiles along the rim usually crack when it comes out, the panel may not fit the new one, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Why book with us

  • No extra charge for your area
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing

See our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

The process

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will take it from there. The job generally runs to two to three hours for most chips.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, typically the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

How to look after the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby

Care for the repair the same way as the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

Gilcrux: your questions answered

What areas do you cover?

We cover the whole UK, including Gilcrux and the rest of Cumbria. Send your postcode with your photos and we will offer you dates.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

In most cases. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Are there extra charges for Gilcrux?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

How much does bath repair cost in Gilcrux?

Repairs from £95. We give a fixed quote from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

What affects the price in Gilcrux

Repairs from £95. We give every job a fixed price from photos. These are the things that affect it:

  • The material
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Quotes from your pictures

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Any details about the material

To get a price, send a couple of pictures through our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

What a repair cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we work on in Gilcrux

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.
