Bath repair for Lower Strode homes

How we handle bath repair in Lower Strode

A damaged bath does not have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day. If you are dealing with scuffs and scratches in the surface and holes from dropped items, we can help, on acrylic, cast iron enamel and whirlpool & spa baths alike.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are covered after the visit.

How to care for the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust can start.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, so water can’t get in. Take it off before we arrive.

What a repair can’t fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Common problems we fix in Lower Strode

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, a chip that reaches the metal will start to rust.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • A cracked acrylic bath

Choosing a repair company

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

Lower Strode questions

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

What does bath repair cost?

Prices start from £95. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Often, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a picture.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and the bathroom stays exactly as it is. Our bath repair starts from £95. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book.

Why us?

  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • No extra charge for your area
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

The process

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which generally takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
