Bath repair in Mail

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine without abrasive products.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

How we handle bath repair in Mail

Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes is repaired in place. Nothing is unplumbed, your tiles stay as they are, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. We are often asked to fix chips caused by builders and hairline or through cracks in acrylic, on cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will sort it.

Mail questions

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

What areas do you cover?

Across the UK. Prices do not change with location.

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can tenants book a repair?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes, we do this frequently. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

When can I have a bath again?

Usually the following day. We confirm the time before we leave.

Do you need bath repair in Mail?

Many chips happen while the bathroom is being fitted. Tools, tiles and fittings get dropped into the bath, and the damage is not always spotted until later. Snagging repairs like these are a regular job for us.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • A chipped rim or side
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic

Before you book anyone

  • How long it needs to cure
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • Whether they match the colour on site

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. The main factors are:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Access to the area
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many items we do on one visit

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Mail. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Most customers in Mail get their price from pictures. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

The process

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Repairing versus replacing in Mail

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim normally crack when it comes out, the panel may not fit the new one, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why book with us

When a repair isn’t the answer

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Landlord and trade work in Mail

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we will arrange it.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
