Bath repair for New Town homes

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

How we handle bath repair in New Town

Whatever has happened to the bath, we aim for the same result: a smooth, solid repair that blends in. Proper preparation, careful filling and shaping, then colour and gloss matching so it’s level with the surrounding surface. Our technicians work on whirlpool & spa baths, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic, and the jobs we see most are scuffs and scratches in the surface and an old repair that has yellowed or come loose.

Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Edinburgh.

Work for landlords and builders

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Edinburgh and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Ask for a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, include your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

What affects the price in New Town

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What the surface is made of

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before booking.

Quotes from your pictures

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. It helps if you send:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any details about the material

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can price the job without visiting.

How to look after the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent

A repaired bath needs no special treatment, beyond gentle cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams and rinse after use.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

Repairing versus replacing in New Town

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why book with us

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • Colour-matched on site

Signs you need bath repair in New Town

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

Most people contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • A chipped rim or side
  • Chips under the taps
  • Snagging damage from a refit

What to look for in a quote

  • How soon you can use it again
  • What prep work is covered
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • How changes to the job are handled

10 questions to ask before you book

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.
