Bath repair in Plain-an-Gwarry, done in place

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. If you’re dealing with rusty patches near the plughole and cracks in an acrylic bath, we can typically put it right, whatever the material.

Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

How to look after the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Can I fix it myself?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

How it works

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a few hours, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the following day.

Repairing versus replacing in Plain-an-Gwarry

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like is not cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Our bath repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many areas need work
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • What the surface is made of

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Phone pictures are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Any details about the material
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.
