What we’re called out for in Ratley

Heavy toiletries are the biggest single cause of chips, closely followed by shower heads. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Damage beneath the taps

Questions to ask before booking

  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show

Our hiring checklist

Bath repair in Ratley, done in place

You don’t need a new bath because of a chip. Our repair technicians fill, shape and refinish the damage, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. We work on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel, and common reasons people get in touch are an old repair that has yellowed or come loose and scratches you can feel with a fingernail.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Ratley as everywhere else we work.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. What matters most is:

  • How much damage there is
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The material
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Getting a price from photos

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can price the job the same day in most cases.

Questions from Ratley

How much does bath repair cost in Ratley?

Repairs from £95. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You’ll get a fixed figure before you book.

Do you cover Ratley?

We do. Repair technicians travel to Ratley from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Can you price it without visiting?

Generally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

What do you need from me?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Ratley

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Why repair rather than replace?

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Our bath repair starts from £95. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why Ratley customers choose us

  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • One visit for most repairs

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

The process

There is not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will take it from there. Most visits take two to three hours for most chips, tidy-up included.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A steel bath rusted through
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
