Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, and get on with the job, which usually takes a morning or an afternoon. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the day after.

How to prepare

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Redmile: your questions answered

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed price, plus dates. You are under no obligation.

How much does bath repair cost in Redmile?

Repairs from £95. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Regularly. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust can start.

A small chip is a quick job. Leave them and they collect dirt, stain and, on metal baths, rust, so early repair saves time and money.

When we’d advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. There is no area surcharge for Redmile. What changes the price is:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How hard the colour is to match

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed quote

You can take the photos on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Where you are, by postcode

For a price in Redmile, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Repair or replace: which is better?

People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. In most cases it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Our bath repair starts from £95. Compared with replacing, repairing typically costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why us?

  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Everything repaired in place
  • Work done at your home or business

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Common problems we fix in Redmile

Heavy toiletries are the biggest single cause of chips. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • A chip where the taps sit
  • A chipped rim or side
  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Holes from dropped items

What to look for in a quote

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • What protection goes down before work starts
