Bath repair at your home in NG13

Whatever the damage, the aim is the same: a repair that’s smooth, sound and hard to spot. Proper preparation, careful filling and shaping, then colour and gloss matching so it’s level with the surrounding surface. Our technicians work on whirlpool & spa baths, roll-top & freestanding and cast iron enamel, and common reasons people get in touch are chips on the rim or sides and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted.

You don’t need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. It generally takes two to three hours for most chips, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Aftercare tips

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.

What a repair can’t fix

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.
