Bath repair in Rosehearty, done in place

Most of our bath repairs take a few hours, and you can typically bathe again the following day. You won’t need a plumber or tiler, because the bath doesn’t move. Whether it’s a hole punched through by something heavy and chips under the taps, we can help, whatever the material.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

There’s nothing special to do after a repair, beyond gentle cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams and give it a rinse after each bath.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. Once it has cured, typically by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair is not always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How many items we do on one visit

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your pictures

Phone pictures are fine, there is no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The material, if you know it

For a price in Rosehearty, pictures are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Rosehearty questions

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You will get a fixed quote back. You’re under no obligation.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work that clears as it cures.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Typically within a day, though it depends on what we’ve done.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, very often. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

When to call us in Rosehearty

Damage during fitting is very common. Tools, tiles and fittings get dropped into the bath, frequently before anyone notices. Snagging repairs like these are a regular job for us.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • Damage beneath the taps
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Deep scratches in acrylic

10 questions to ask before booking

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a fitted bath typically means a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and getting rid of the old bath. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Rosehearty

  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • One-year guarantee on every repair

See our full price list or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
