Bath repair in Seaton

How we handle bath repair in Seaton

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Common call-outs are for a hole punched through by something heavy and scuffs and scratches in the surface, across whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and pressed steel enamel.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Seaton as everywhere else we work.

Signs you need bath repair in Seaton

Heavy toiletries are the biggest single cause of chips. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

The things clients generally mention when they call include:

  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
  • Chips caused by builders
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Cracks in an acrylic bath

What your quote should include

  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What prep work is covered
  • How to care for the finish

The process

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take a few hours, depending on the damage. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Repairs by material

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Every use opens the crack a little more, and it can start to leak underneath.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Seaton. What changes the price is:

  • The material and finish
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • What kind of damage it is

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

How to get a fixed price

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • The material, if you know it
  • One picture of the entire bath

To get a price, send two or three pictures through our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Repairing versus replacing in Seaton

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, a new panel is frequently needed, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. A repair skips all of it. Prices start from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Your questions about bath repair in Seaton

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including pastel and older colours.

Will the repair show?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Do you come to Seaton?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Seaton. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What happens after I send photos?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.
