Bath repair near Smithies

How we handle bath repair in Smithies

Whatever the damage, the aim is the same: a smooth, solid repair that blends in. We prepare the area properly, fill and shape it, then match the colour and gloss so it sits flush with the rest of the bath. Whether it’s snagging damage from a refit and damage beneath the taps, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll come back.

What affects the price in Smithies

Repairs from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How much damage there is
  • The type of damage
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Send photos for a quote

Phone photos are fine. Make sure they show:

  • Any details about the material
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

For a price in Smithies, photos are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

FAQs for Smithies

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including pastel and older colours.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes. We remove the rust and loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Can tenants book a repair?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Will the repair last?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It carries our one-year guarantee.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

How it works

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes a morning or an afternoon, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

When we would advise against a repair

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding

How to care for the repair

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust sets in.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Common problems we fix in Smithies

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: the bath is not properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

Contact us if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • Chips under the taps

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • Whether the price covers travel

Choosing a repair company

Repair or replace: which is better?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Prices start from £95. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.
