About our bath repair in Stean

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Common call-outs are for damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and an old repair that has yellowed or come loose, in acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we will come back.

Do you need bath repair in Stean?

Rust usually starts where water sits, around the waste, under the taps or in an old chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

Look out for any of the following:

  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • Rust by the waste and overflow

Choosing a repair company

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: tiles along the rim generally crack when it comes out, the panel may not fit the new one, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Our bath repair starts from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Stean

  • One visit for most repairs

For landlords and businesses

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

What we can’t put right

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Stean questions

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send pictures with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

In most cases. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so access behind the panel is important.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Is a bath repair permanent?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps.

What does bath repair cost?

Prices start from £95. We give a fixed quote based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up and a photo of the whole item with your HG3 postcode.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

The process

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. You can expect it to take a morning or an afternoon.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot

There is nothing special to do after a repair, just sensible cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams and give it a rinse after each bath.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.
