Questions from Tal-y-bont

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Frequently, if there is access underneath. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it typically saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and you’ll get one combined price.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working, which fades afterwards.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Conwy.

Bath repair in Tal-y-bont without replacing anything

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. We are often asked to fix rusty patches near the plughole and chips on the rim or sides, on acrylic, roll-top & freestanding and cast iron enamel.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Tal-y-bont as everywhere else we work.

Repairing versus replacing in Tal-y-bont

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it takes one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why us?

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • Everything repaired in place

Landlords, agents and businesses in Tal-y-bont

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Aftercare tips

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas

Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. We do not charge extra for travel to Tal-y-bont. The price depends on:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The material
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed price

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

To get a price, send a couple of photos through our quote form or call us. We will say straight away whether it can be repaired.

What a repair can’t fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

What happens on the day

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we are there, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage for most jobs. We leave the room clean and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
