Bath repair for Urquhart homes

Bath repair in Urquhart, done in place

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Our technicians work on roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and acrylic, and common reasons people contact us are a chip where the taps sit and deep scratches in acrylic.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

What we are called out for in Urquhart

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

Contact us if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Holes from dropped items
  • Rust spots around the plughole

Before booking anyone

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • Aftercare advice

Our hiring checklist

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine, avoiding abrasives.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Urquhart questions

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Generally, yes, if we can reach behind it. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders.

Do the materials smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed quote, normally with dates to choose from. You’re under no obligation.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. It generally takes two to three hours for most chips, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

How to prepare

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. We price every job individually. What matters most is:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The type of damage
  • What the surface is made of

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Getting a price from photos

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • The material, if you know it

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Repairing versus replacing in Urquhart

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and the bathroom stays as it is. If the whole surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we’ll tell you. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
