Bath resealing near Bilton

Is resealing worth it?

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why book with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • Most jobs done in one visit

About our bath resealing in Bilton

A good reseal is all about preparation: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Then the fresh sealant goes on, in a neat, continuous bead. Typical jobs include an untidy old seal and silicone coming away from the tiles, in kitchen worktops & sinks, shower trays & enclosures and baths.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll come back.

The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Allow around two hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Advice

How to care for the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Give the seal a regular clean

Keep the room well ventilated, and wipe the joints after use.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Landlord and trade work in Bilton

If you manage property in Bilton, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send pictures for each one and we will price them together.

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

How we price bath resealing

We charge the same across the UK, including Bilton. The price reflects:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The material and finish

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing usually costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Quotes from your photos

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • A wider photo showing the whole bath or shower
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

When to call us in Bilton

A bathroom without good ventilation is hard on sealant: damp hangs around, and mould takes hold.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Leaks at the edges

What your quote should include

  • Aftercare advice
  • Who will actually do the work
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price

10 questions to ask before you book

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Hidden water damage
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Bilton: your questions answered

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Normally poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Typically because the bath or tray moves. We seal baths full of water.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

What information do you need?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

How do I get a price for bath resealing in Bilton?

Because every job differs, we price from photos. You’ll get a fixed figure before you book.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

All the old sealant comes out. New silicone will not bond to old.
