About our bath resealing in Cairndow

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. We are often asked to fix damp near the bath and stained silicone, on shower trays & enclosures, baths and wet rooms.

You’re covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

How the visit works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take around two hours. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Advice

What we are called out for in Cairndow

Sealant does not last forever. Every bath or shower adds moisture and soap residue, which mould feeds on, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Sealant that is split or lifting
  • Leaks at the edges
  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Missing sealant behind the taps

Questions to ask before you book

  • How to care for the finish
  • How the colour is matched
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What happens if they find more damage

How to compare quotes

Different materials, different repairs

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Prices and what affects them

There is no area surcharge for Cairndow. The price reflects:

  • Access to the area
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The material and finish

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed price

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any details about the material
  • One picture of the whole bath or shower

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower, add your postcode and send them to us. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Why reseal now?

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s quick, tidy and protects your home. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why Cairndow customers choose us

  • One visit for most repairs
  • No extra charge for your area
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • A year’s guarantee on all work

See our prices page.

What we can’t put right

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Hidden water damage

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Landlord and trade work in Cairndow

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Cairndow use us as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Cairndow questions

Are there extra charges for Cairndow?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

How do I book?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

How much does bath resealing cost in Cairndow?

Every job gets a fixed price based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your PA26 postcode.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote and the next dates we have.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

Normally about a day later. We will tell you the exact time.

Do you cover the whole of Argyll and Bute?

All of Argyll and Bute, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Usually because the bath or tray moves. We fill the bath before sealing it.
