Common questions in Compass

Do you cover the entire of Somerset?

The entire UK, including all of Somerset. Just include your postcode and we’ll offer you dates.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it typically saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and you’ll get one combined price.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Do you charge for travel?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that is in the quote.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

What do you need from me?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the whole bath or shower and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Bath resealing in Compass without replacing anything

A good reseal is all about preparation: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Only then does the new sealant go on, in a neat, continuous bead. Whether it’s mould you can’t clean out and silicone coming away from the tiles, we can help, whatever the material.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will come back.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • A flexing bath
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Air the room after use

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem; it shows moisture is getting in. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

The process

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes about two hours for a bath, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, including around the taps.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

How to get a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Common problems we fix in Compass

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning can’t get it all out.

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:

  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Sealant that is split or lifting
  • A messy previous reseal

What your quote should include

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • What happens if they find more damage

How to compare quotes

For landlords and businesses

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Somerset and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

What bath resealing costs

Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • How many areas need work
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Access to the area

A repair generally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Quotes from your photos

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire bath or shower, include your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
