DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

Bath resealing at your home in Glastonbury

A reseal is a small job that makes a big difference. Fresh joints make the entire room look cleaner, and they keep water out. Whether it’s black spots in the silicone and damp near the bath, we can help, on kitchen worktops & sinks, baths and basins & vanity units alike.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Somerset.

Why it’s worth resealing in Glastonbury

A professional reseal costs little compared with water damage. It’s quick, tidy and protects your home. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

What you get with us

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • Everything repaired in place
  • A year’s guarantee on all work

How we price bath resealing

Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material
  • The type of damage
  • How much damage there is

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed price

Two or three clear pictures are normally enough. It helps if you send:

  • Any details about the material
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. There’s no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.

What a repair can’t fix

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • A flexing bath
  • Hollow or loose tiles

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Let steam out after showers
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

What we do, step by step

There is not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll get on with it. Most visits take a couple of hours, tidy-up included.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.
