How we handle bath resealing in Freshbrook

We cut out all of the old sealant, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, including the awkward bits behind the taps. Typical jobs include silicone smeared on tiles and stained silicone, across shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & sinks and basins & vanity units.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Good ventilation is the best protection, and dry the joints after bathing to keep mould away.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

Choosing a repair company

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

For anyone letting property in or around Freshbrook, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we’ll price them together.

Prices and what affects them

Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Access to the area
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How hard the colour is to match

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Send photos for a quote

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • One picture of the whole bath or shower
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

How it works

Arrival times are agreed in advance. On site, it takes a couple of hours for most jobs. The room is left tidy and you will know when it can be used.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

Why it’s worth resealing in Freshbrook

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Freshbrook: your questions answered

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Movement is the usual cause, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Do you come to Freshbrook?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Freshbrook. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Are there extra charges for Freshbrook?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

Normally about a day later. We confirm before we leave.

Can new silicone go over old?

We always remove the old sealant completely. New silicone won’t bond to old.

What happens after I send photos?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.
