Questions from Hillam

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

How long does resealing take?

Most reseals take about two hours. It then needs time to cure.

What do you need from me?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we will do the rest.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. If photos don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Bath resealing in Hillam, done in place

All of the old sealant is cut out, treat any mould, and reseal with new mould-resistant silicone. We reseal baths, showers, sinks and worktops, and that includes the awkward spots behind the taps. If you’re dealing with gaps by the taps and a messy previous reseal, we can typically put it right, on kitchen worktops & sinks, wet rooms and baths alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

What we do, step by step

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes about two hours for a bath, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Open a window after bathing
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

What we cannot put right

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

What we are called out for in Hillam

Poor ventilation speeds things up: damp hangs around, and mould takes hold.

The things clients generally mention when they call are:

  • Leaks at the edges
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant

Before you book anyone

  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • How long it needs to cure
  • If travel is included in the price
  • What happens if they find more damage

Why it’s worth resealing in Hillam

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book.
